In a powerful display of SOLIDARITY, women leaders nationwide, encompassing various sectors, have signed a letter titled: “In The Name of our Children: A Call for Peace in Gaza” demand immediate U.S. government action to enforce Cease Fire. Furthermore, calling for an end to the allocation our our tax dollars to pay for a war that kills children and perpetuates policies of violence and division which have clearly made no one safe.


We Are Megan

The Gathering for Justice announced on Tuesday, December 13 in Los Angeles, it will partner with multiple women’s and violence prevention organizations including Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium, 2nd Call, Homies Unidos, Take Charge, Inc., COMMUNITYx, Inc., TimeDone, and more, to show solidarity and support Megan Thee Stallion at the courthouse as she recalls the tragic events that took place in Hollywood on July, 12 2020.


Watch 13 Moms who are exonerees, activists, and influencers speak out against Melissa Lucio’s April 27 execution for a crime that never occurred in Texas. This campaign was in partnership with Innocence Project client Melissa, an innocent mom of 12 .


Walk a Mile In My Shoes

The Gathering For Justice is proud to be a part of a great initiative born from a long-standing friendship between Idris and Sabrina Elba, and Christian Louboutin!

The three friends created the #WalkAMileInMyShoes collection, a capsule designed to raise awareness about the social and racial injustices faced by many around the world.


A Day Without a Black Womxn

In the wake of the grand jury decision to not indict Officer Brett Hankinson, Detective Joshua Jaynes, Detective Myles Cosgrove, and Sergeant Jonathan Mattingly for the murder of Breonna Taylor. Coupled with our government’s consistent failure to uphold accountability for the violent misconduct of its employees, we are calling for a general strike—an economic boycott.


Justice For Sean Monterrosa

Sean Monterrosa was killed on June 2, 2020, while kneeling with his hands in the air. Sean was unarmed and was complying with police orders, yet he was killed in the police equivalent of a drive-by shooting.


In October 2020 The Gathering led a coalition of local and statewide organizations in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on behalf of “Thee 3” [Alvin Cole, Antonio Gonzales, Jay Anderson], 3 young men of color murdered by a single police officer. That officer, Joseph Mensah, is currently on trial.


March for Stolen Lives: The Take Back

On Saturday, June 6th, 2020 we raise our voices and hit the streets of New York City for #theTakeBack! When we say Black Lives Matter, we mean no more stolen lives and no more looted dreams.


Covid 19 Community Response grant

In April 2020, after the pandemic hit NYC with its full force, The Gathering created a Covid 19 Community Response grant for formerly and recently incarcerated young people and their families.


MDC Brooklyn Detention Center

In early 2019, Justice League NYC became one of the leading organizations “occupying” MDC Brooklyn detention center for several days after the incarcerated men complained of lack of heat, water, medications and more. JLNYC’s efforts brought in national attention, and led to a year-long collaboration with the BOP in Philadelphia to help create a chain of information for future catastrophes.


Justice4Meek

The Justice for Meek Mill campaign was a significant victory for the criminal justice reform movement. It showed that the public is willing to stand up for people who are being treated unfairly by the system. The campaign also helped to raise awareness about the problems with probation and the need for reform.


Women’s Convention in Detroit

In October 2017 The Gathering for Justice was a co-producer of the Women’s Convention in Detroit, which had more than 5,000 attendees and a wide-ranging 3-day program plus concerts, screenings, trainings, a market/village and more.


#TAKEAKNEE

The Take a Knee campaign was a movement in started by Colin Kaepernick, a NFL quarterback, to protest police brutality and racial injustice in the America. Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem before NFL games in 2016, and his actions sparked a national debate about race and sports. The Gathering was one of the organizations that supported Kaepernick and also worked with him to organize a series of Know Your Rights workshops for young people. TGFJ's involvement with Kaepernick was part of a larger mission to end mass incarceration and police brutality.


Raise the Age

From 2015 - 2017, Justice League NYC was one of the leading groups in the efforts to “Raise the Age” of criminal responsibility from 16 to 18. After a number of direct actions and working the ‘inside game’, Raise the Age passed in April 2017.


Women’s March on Washington

In November, 2016, The Gathering for Justice became the foundational and grounding partner of Women’s March on Washington, which took place on January 21, 2017. More than 63 national organizers built the largest demonstration in history, with more than 6 million attendees worldwide, out of The Gathering’s (former) midtown offices, in less than 10 weeks.


Justice For Flint Concert

From mid February-mid March 2016 Justice League NYC moved to the region to build on the ground coalitions and provide support and resources to the Flint community. Our work there, including co-production of that year’s “Oscars So White” anti-Oscars - the Justice For Flint Concert headlined by Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monae and many more.


Justice Or Else

On October 10, 2015 Justice League NYC co-led Justice Or Else, the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March, an historic gathering on the National Mall with over 500,000 attendees.


March2Justice

In April, 2015, Justice League NYC led March2Justice, a 250 mile march from NYC to DC with 3 pieces of legislation called “The Justice Package” - the renewal of the JJDPA, the End Racial Profiling bill, and the Stop Militarization of the Police bill. After the March and a day of meetings on Capitol Hill, all 3 pieces of legislation moved to next stages, and the JJDPA was passed.


Dream4Justice

On MLK Day, January 2015, Justice League NYC led Dream4Justice, a march from Harlem to the UN which drew over 10,000 people.


#FirePantaleo

On December 3, 2014 after the announcement of the non-indictment of Daniel Pantaleo, Justice League NYC took over the streets, leading a number of major direct actions including delivering “I Can’t Breathe” shirts to Jay Z and the Brooklyn Nets, shutting down the Apple Store and Macy’s, organizing demonstrations outside Gracie Mansion and more. The work on behalf of Justice for Eric Garner continued for years, and continues today.


Growing Up Locked Down (NYC)

In September 2014 The Gathering produced Growing Up Locked Down, a national youth conference at The New School with over 800 participants and an immersive, engaging program that included panels, live art presentations, nonviolence trainings, concerts, a film premiere and more.


Purple Gold

Purple Gold is the youth division of SEIU 1199, a union of healthcare workers in New York City and Long Island. The division was created by The Gathering’s then Executive Director, Carmen Perez to empower young people to get involved in the labor movement and to fight for social justice.
