The Gathering for Justice Responds To The Kidnapping And Murder Of Susana Morales
In the summer of 2022, 16-year-old Susana Morales disappeared. Her remains were discovered more than six months later on February 6, 2023. Miles Bryant, an Atlanta Police Officer was charged in connection with her murder on February 13, 2023
[NEW YORK,NY] - My heart aches as I write about the tragic murder of Susana Morales, a young Latina who was kidnapped and brutally killed by the police. As the CEO & President of a Black and Brown-led organization, The Gathering for Justice, I am filled with outrage and sadness at this senseless loss of life. How many more must suffer before the system finally changes? It is devastating to see yet another life taken by those who have sworn to serve and protect us.
My thoughts and prayers are with Susana's mother, Maria Morales, and her sister, Jasmine Morales. As they fight for justice for their beloved family member, we stand with them in solidarity from New York to CA. We will not let this tragedy be forgotten or brushed aside. It is our right to demand justice, and we will do everything in our power to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
As a Chicana feminist, I know firsthand the struggles and injustices faced by Latina women. It is unacceptable that our community receives less attention and support in situations like this. We must fight against the brutality and oppression of our Latina sisters and demand the same responsive action as any other community would receive.
At The Gathering for Justice, we are committed to building intergenerational & intercultural solidarity through our intentional approach rooted in Kingian Nonviolence. We know that when we come together in the struggle for liberation, we are stronger. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
As we remember Susana and the countless other lives lost to police brutality, we must continue to fight for justice and equity for all. The beloved community that I am striving to build is one where everyone receives justice, and the harm done to families is repaired. Let us work together to ensure lawfulness for everyone involved and honor Susana's memory by never giving up on our fight for justice.
Please sign the petition to support the Morales family as we continue to seek justice for Susana. For more information go to https://www.justice4susana.com
